Parksite Open House A Success Thanks to You

On June 24th, Parksite South Windsor hosted close to 125 customers to share in great food and entertainment. The event was roughly on the anniversary of a similar event held 5 years ago. “We know times have changed dramatically since then,” states Keven Crotty, Sales Manager for Parksite, “but that doesn’t mean it is any less important to take time to thank our customers and spend some time together in a fun environment outside the daily grind.”

The event included a DJ who provided great music to keep the mood light; but the focal point of entertainment was the Jeff Gordon #24 race car and racing simulator. Whether you are a fan of racing or not, sitting inside a real NASCAR and having the chance to see what racing is really like is something that can be enjoyed by many. In addition to the entertainment was a great menu of steak, chicken, and New England lobster. Some may have made the trip just for the lobster, but we are still glad you came!

The event did have some business elements to it as lumber dealers had the chance to interact face to face with many of Parksite’s key suppliers and also with some members of Parksite management from outside the New England area. In addition, dealers were able to tour through the facility and see what Parksite can offer from both a capacity and logistics stand point. “We are proud of our facility and our logistics team did a great job getting it prepared for the event,” mentioned Crotty, “it’s important to show our customers that we are here for the long haul and will do what is necessary to support them.”

Parksite would like to thank the vendors who participated and displayed their products at the event. Most importantly Parksite would like to thank our customers, many of which traveled a good distance to attend the event. Your support means a lot and we hope to always reciprocate by doing our best to supply you with quality building products. Southeast Building Conference in Orlando, FL

In July, the Florida Surfaces team was one of more than 300 exhibitors at the Southeast Building Conference in Orlando. Along with DuPont partners, Susan Kenney and Chris Anderson, the surfaces team (pictured above) talked with more than 100 building company attendees, while giving them information on the latest and greatest in the world of DuPont Surfaces. Our 10’x20’ booth featured five displays including Private Collection Corian® and Terra Collection Zodiaq® colors, with the most attention by far going to a custom-fabricated sink display created by one of our fabrication partners, Infinity Surfaces.

The eye-catching “Wave Sink” was made from Corian® Elderberry and featured a backlit sink that was thermoformed using Blueberry Ice Illumination Series Corian®. The finishing touch was added by using running water, and people passing by were absolutely blown away. In the words of one of our customers, “it was a show stopper!” In fact, we attracted many existing and potential builder customers, including Ryland Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Mattamy Homes, Kolter Signature Homes, Century Homes, Arthur Rutenberg Homes and many more.

A huge thank you to Infinity Surfaces for creating the wave sink display, as well as Parksite team members Pete Wheeler and Stephen Gartner for all of their help in setting up our fabulous booth and making us look good! Thanks also to American Countertop for the fabrication of a new Flax Zodiaq® countertop for the booth as well. Overall, we felt the show was a very positive experience in re-engaging our customers in the new construction segment.

HomeAid Atlanta and Tapestry Youth Ministries recently dedicated a newly renovated duplex which will serve homeless young mothers and their babies. The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony marked the official completion of renovations.

PR Log (Press Release) – Apr 07, 2010 – On March 30, HomeAid Atlanta and Tapestry Youth Ministries dedicated a newly renovated College Park duplex which will serve homeless young mothers and their babies. Held at the site of the duplex, the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony marked the official completion of renovations. The duplex will be operated by Tapestry Youth Ministries, a nonprofit organization providing transitional housing and supportive services to help homeless young mothers get back on the right track and prepare them for independent living. More than 30 people attended the ceremony, including Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards, representatives from HomeAid Atlanta and Tapestry Youth Ministries, as well as many of the partners that contributed to the project.

The renovation effort, which began last April, was led by HomeAid Atlanta, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless service providers like Tapestry Youth Ministries complete transitional housing construction/renovations. To complete the duplex project, HomeAid Atlanta secured in-kind donations of labor and materials from more than 50 trade partners. During the dedication ceremony, the participating trade partners were honored for their contributions to the project. Renovations to the duplex included replacing flooring, sinks, faucets, toilets, countertops, light fixtures, appliances and garage doors; installing a new roof, new gutters/downspouts and new exterior siding; interior and exterior painting; HVAC repairs and upgrades; installing a fence; and landscaping, among other things.

“We are so happy to have had the opportunity to partner with Tapestry Youth Ministries for this project. Tapestry operates an outstanding program to assist homeless women with children in our community, ultimately giving these young families a fresh start in life and hope for the future,” said Dan O’Dwyer, president of HomeAid Atlanta. “We are grateful to everyone who participated in this project to make it a great success.”

Tapestry Youth Ministries currently operates two Second Chance Homes for homeless teen mothers between the ages of 14-17 and their children. The newly renovated duplex allows Tapestry to expand its program to serve young mothers between the ages of 18-23 who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and have no more than two children. Tapestry is committed to providing a safe, structured, nurturing environment where these mothers and their babies can experience quality home life and positive development. The organization places these young women on a path toward self-sufficiency.

HomeAid Atlanta has a long-standing relationship with Tapestry Youth Ministries. In 2005, HomeAid, in partnership with Mayfield Homes and The Knight Group, constructed Tapestry’s Second Chance Home in Fairburn, which serves six homeless teen mothers and their children.

The NJ Chapter of NADRA successfully completed the deck and ramp for Sgt. Minard and his family on November 17, 2009. Army SSG Michael Minard, 26 years old, was on his third tour in Iraq when tragedy struck. "1 October we were out on a recon just a couple clicks north of Sadr City in Baghdad and on the way we got hit by a [roadside bomb]," he said. "It tore through our Stryker and stripped my legs apart." Sgt. Minard lost both of his legs in the explosion.

While Homes for our Troops is building the house, NADRA worked on building the deck and ramp for Sgt. Minard. Several NADRA members and other builder volunteers and manufacturer's reps came together and built this deck and ramp in six days. "You would never know that the volunteers are competitors in the building industry, as everyone worked as a unified team all with the goal of giving back to someone who sacrificed so much for our country", states Jen Sheridan, secretary of the NJ Chapter of NADRA.

“There is no better way to give back to our soldiers; we completed the ramp last week. Again my level of gratitude is extremely high for the sacrifice of these men and women who risk their lives for the safety of our country. [It was] a great experience when Mike came to the site, it was so rewarding to meet him and yet heart wrenching as I chocked back the tears. Nichiha’s fiber cement panel system is experiencing wide acceptance as an alternative to brick or stone, especially on commercial buildings, restaurants, and multi-family projects. If you walked past a Nichiha wall you would be unlikely to know its not real brick. The secret is in the panel design and the clip system used to install them. Parksite Donates EcoTop to the Department of Energy Living Zero Home Tour

EcoTop, the newest and most sustainable addition to our portfolio of surfacing options, piqued the interest of Coachmen Industries. A publically held company known for RV’s, Coachmen also has an All American Homes division that focuses on single family modular homes. Parksite was asked to participate in All American’s showcase home being developed for The Department of Energy’s(DOE) Living Zero Home Tour to feature EcoTop in the kitchen.

This multiple-stop tour will promote energy efficiency and green living. Stops include Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, Nevada, New Mexico and California. All American Homes’ project will be showcased in each of these locations, as well as featured on NBC’s Today Show in mid-August. Remote broadcasts from the All American Homes Booth at Greenbuild Phoenix and a NASCAR event are scheduled as well.

“The Living Zero tour is all about how people can save energy everyday by living smart and updating their homes with more efficient systems,” reports Coachman Industries.

IKEA in Avon, MA recently installed an EcoTop Snow White L-shape kitchen vignette with a stainless steel undermount sink (pictured at right). The display includes a large island featuring a cooktop and a raised bar. The sleek lines and smooth texture offer the defined and timeless appearance as intended. It is truly a sophisticated display.

“EcoTop is a perfect fit for IKEA,” said Paul D’Attansio, Padco Countertop fabricator. IKEA explored other green products. But, with EcoTop they were impressed with the bamboo content and the ten color offering. Furthermore they wanted to keep the pricing under $75 per sq. ft. This store caters to the Harvard and Cambridge crowd and they are a very informed customer.
